More than two years ago I met John Aitken. He was an aspiring writer and photographer. In addition to belonging to the same writers' group, our paths crossed daily at the local middle school. John's creative genius and energy for the arts continues to inspire his students. Since our first meeting, John and his wife Abby, expanded their family to include twins and their home to include John's first photography studio. Two friends with separate dreams yet a common bond, to use the gifts God has blessed us with to help others. John captures the beauty within each of his clients with his camera while I use writing. ![]() In 2010, I shared my dream to one day seek publication with our writers' group. John offered to take the pictures for my professional portfolio. Unaware of both dreams becoming a reality in the near future, I thanked him. The following year I switched buildings at school and our writers' group slowly dwindled and then came to a close. Although we kept in touch via Facebook and on superintendent's days, our paths didn't cross much. ![]() I remembered this conversation as I outlined my portfolio and worked with my wonderful PR person on the things needed before the release of my book. To contact John was on my list but before I reached this item, John emailed me. We set up a date and time, I picked out a wardrobe to meet John's suggestions to the best of my ability, and arrived at the scheduled time. John's studio is as lovely as John's personality. It is warm, inviting, and full of surprise. Since we arrived a few minutes early I was able to watch John wrap up the session before me. He truly loves what he does and has an eye for detail. The door connecting to his house also serves as a gateway to endless props for his various photo shoots. In a matter of minutes the studio was transformed from newborn photo-shoot to one for an author and her first professional photo-shoot. At the conclusion of the shoot, Mags and I packed up the array of items we brought then followed John to his office to complete paperwork. With the details in order, we waited to receive the proofs. I found John's pictures amazing as we looked through the picture window of his camera but to see the actual proofs and CD, we were speechless. Beautiful and awe-inspiring photograph is a gift. I'm ever so thankful for a friend like John. He captured my personality while providing the professional head shot I needed. John's photographic talents range from babies, weddings, high school seniors, and so much more. If you are looking for an inspirational and captivating photo, I would give John a call. ![]() "My ambition is to capture photos with emotion, intention, and creative style.
