Last month my mother-in-law, Norine, took her last breath and joined my father-in-law, Bob, in heaven. We grieve her loss from our lives, especially during the holiday season. In our family, the season starts with Veteran's Day. In addition to my Dad, father-in-law, husband, his brothers, and multiple generations of men in the family we are reminded daily of the sacrifice they give and have given. This Veteran's Day, Mom and Dad Buske are in heaven but thankfully, we will see each other again, one day. Our next meeting will be one of health, happiness, and laughter. But for today, the first of many altered traditions start. I will join my sister-in-laws to start the baking and preparations for Thanksgiving next week. We won't have Mom's guidance as bake (not that we listened well, lol) and it is a week earlier than normal. Due to the schools' modification to this year's calendar, we don't have next Wednesday off. So we are trying something new. Preparing and freezing the pies today so my sister-in-law, Rose, will only (which is a huge task, she'll be up all night, lol) need to bake them Wednesday when she gets home from work. Our time of thankfulness and festive anticipation starts this afternoon with each pie crust rolled, filled, and saved for our joyous feast next week. ![]() Good-bye to the old, hello to the new! Holidays might be different and more tearful after the loss of a loved one BUT they are not impossible. There is always hope. As long as we have family and friends with God at the helm...love, peace, and joy are the only result at the end of the day. |
