The second Wednesday of each month I participate with a blog tour to celebrate Indie authors. Most Indie authors dedicate ample amount of time, energy, and caffeine to publishing their own piece of work, or works. Some will self-publish just to pump out books and call themselves "author" while others purpose their efforts to produce the best book they possibly can using their God-given talents, critique groups, editors, and many other venues and avenues so their book is well written and well received. One way to highlight this hard work is to join author Indie authors on a monthly mission like this with the Indelibles. At the bottom of this blog are links to author Indie Authors striving to share the best story they can and pointers to being not just published, but successful and full of joy.
Since the last time some of you visited the blog, Where's Heidi? One Sister's Journey?, released on April third, on the nineteenth anniversary of my only sister's kidnapping. The first draft vomited from heart and mind through the fingers to my keyboard. Six and a half years later, this same vomit transformed into the book available to you today. I spent the past two and a half years sharing my story through this blog, speaking, and in the conversations of those I met.
During the past twenty-four months I've sent press releases, public service announcements, and embraced the support of the television and news media to help share my sister, Heidi M. Allen with their readers/viewers. As an Indie author, this requires a lot of time and determination to persevere.
Today, I continue to enjoy the release of Where's Heidi? (by the way - click on any photo for a link to Amazon to purchase your copy), with a joy and love only God could use to tickle my spirit. Or was it the feather pens I used to sign my books?
On release day I had two book signings. The first at the very location my sister disappeared from and the other at the local bookstore. As an Indie author you must appreciate, embrace, and support your local bookstore. We are blessed by the relationship we have with Bill & Mindy at The River's End Bookstore in Oswego, New York. They've gone above and beyond to help with the success of Where's Heidi? this week.
There were over two-hundred people at the official kick-off celebration and book signing. My eyes moist with tears most of the evening yet bubbling over with joy and laughter at the same time. I'm thankful for our community and the memories that help me to move forward.
My story opens with a phone call from my aunt to notify me of my sister's disappearance and moves through the minutes, hours, months, and years to follow. I write for God and I write for my sister, Heidi M Allen. Heidi is my younger sister and was a bundle of love, life, and laughter. You know the saying, "Live, Laugh, & Love"? Each time I see these I think of my sister, she probably would have decorated her house with this theme with the personality to match.
So today, I have the pleasure to share a little about my newly published book AND share my wonderful, no fabulous, no...superb little sister. It's National Sibling Day so celebrate your sisters and brothers. If they are alive - give them a call, surprise them with a hug or text, take them out for coffee or dinner, tell them you love and appreciate them, apologize to them, or who knows - ask for forgiveness. Cherish each moment ~ you don't know when your last moments...is the last!
Happy National Sibling Day!
Where's Heidi? One Sister's Journey
is written by a sister, after the kidnapping of her only sister.
My sister disappeared on Easter Sunday, April 3, 1994 and remains missing today.
There isn't a day I don't miss, pray, and hope for her.
Cherish your siblings ~ spend time with them, love them, & pray with and for them. God created us all and the bond between sisters is precious as I'm sure any sibling bond can be.
How will you celebrate and appreciate your sibling today?
I have an idea on how to remember mine...and you can help!!
In honor of National Sibling Day and my sister, Heidi M Allen ~
“Half way through the book already....tears.....I remember so much, and had forgotten so much. I would be in shock in recalling details.....I will never forget you standing in the Fire Hall when we were on the search. I was utterly speechless. This couldn't be happening in New Haven. It's an emotional exhaustion to read going through these emotions…Your book will help people.” Mary Bennett, Camillus, New York
“Finished reading your book Lisa and I actually couldn't put it down. Kudos to you for writing such a heartfelt book....Best of luck on the next one! Keep writing......” N.S.
Thank YOU for encouraging us!
"I started reading tonight - I didn't get far before I had chills and tears from the truth in your writing. It is so very moving that I've already recommended it as a resource to a coaching peer who specializes in helping people navigate their way through grief. Kudos to you!" Julie Fischer

Thankfully today, I've seen the Light, literally and shared this with Von and others I've met along the way. I won't spend a lot of time dwelling on the darkness of the past but something happened on our 2004 exploration into the depths of the woods.
It was during this time of quiet that I heard it, or was it a feeling? Regardless of what you call it, I felt God's arms wrap around me and whisper "I love you Lisa, I never left you." I opened my eyes and it ended yet the warmth of the embrace remained. I called to Von, "Did you hear that?" She laughed and shook her head no.
I still remember that moment, about six months prior to a child telling me, "Mrs. Buske, you need Jesus." -- God prepared my heart to accept his invitation to church and eventually into the family of believers. God never left me, I left Him. Why do I share this with you today, so you know there is hope.
Hope isn't found in the darkness, it is found in the light of Jesus. May you only travel in the light because it makes the journey a lot easier. He is waiting for you to respond.
In the Light, this is only a clearing with trees and nothing more!
If you missed this morning's book signing at the Heidi Allen Remembrance Garden, it's not too late.
6 p.m. TONIGHT at the River's End Bookstore in Oswego
is the big celebration with tidbits you will only learn there!
Couldn't make it this morning? It's not too late...
6 p.m. at the River's End Bookstore in Oswego, NY
Be there to learn how the book's title came to be & much more!
You guessed it ~ The Heidi M Allen Remembrance Garden
In front of the Valero (old D & W), Routes 104 and 104b
Weather permitting, I will be outside near the garden. We have a set number of books for this signing as the big celebration is at the River's End Bookstore in Oswego later tonight. "Why the remembrance Garden?" Easy answer, for the same reason I revealed the cover here - something terrible happened eighteen years ago at this location. My only sister kidnapped and presumed dead. She remains missing today.
I encourage you to visit the store, if not today for the book signing -- to fill your vehicle up with gas, a cup of coffee, or the morning paper. I personally have NEVER been to the store on April 3 since Heidi disappeared. I go throughout the year but never today. So I pray you will join me for this brief yet very special book signing.
