Keeping it Real...Welcome! No matter how you found this, God knew you'd be here today. May you absorb the message He has for you. In 2011 I shared through my writing, today I've learned there is more to me than just writing. I have the energy and passion to share with others. Sometimes through Facebook live and others with my blog and most importantly, I've learned my passion to cook and bake is a vessel to share my writing and live presentations, while glorifying God in the process. I just needed to let go, and follow His lead.

About the Book: Oftentimes, many people try to seek fulfillment from money, relationships, accomplishments, or material things. Others choose to cope with difficult problems by using drugs or alcohol, but they often come up short and soon have to realize that such things do not bring true happiness and fulfillment in life. How then can we successfully solve the problems that we face and find true happiness and peace in our lives? Well, author, Paulette Harper, in her latest book, Completely Whole, shows readers how to overcome suffering caused by alcoholism, substance abuse, poverty, and other obstacles blocking the path to a life of wholeness in spirit, soul, and body. In her well-written, resource-filled guide, Harper provides readers with practical and Biblically-based solutions to overcome everyday problems. Completely Whole features prayers, meditations, and powerful scripture passages to allow readers to interact with the text and to apply it to their own lives. Harper uses personal experiences and biblical principles to place readers on a path to be in connection with God. This life-changing book will help readers to transform their spirit, soul, and body through Jesus Christ, so they can live a life of peace, joy, and fulfillment. Paulette sent her book nearly two months ago for this review. As much as I wanted to read it, I decided to wait until after school was out and have it be my first summer read. I am so glad I waited until I had more time to absorb, reflect, and apply the blessings within this book. “Completely Whole” is packed full of life principles with Bible verses to support her thoughts and suggestions. Her ability to infuse and weave the supporting verses into her great antidotes and challenges captured my heart. Paulette writes as if she is having a conversation with you. I found myself answering her questions aloud and even nodding as I read. My husband’s response, “It must be a good book, you are talking to it.” I love this man. There were so many points I wanted to highlight yet when I looked at my list, I realized it was a Spark Notes version of the book. Too funny, eh? So you will have to buy the book for yourself to read it all but here are a few (and only a few) quotes that jumped out at me. Understand there is Scripture and commentary to engage you as the reader 110%, so these snip-its are just teasers. “To understand the seriousness of faithfulness to God in difficulties, we must look at the effects of our actions while in the wilderness.” “God is doing a new work in our lives, regardless of the mishaps and misadventures that may have occurred.” 3 John 1-2 with her paraphrase and definition of being “Completely Whole” “Unforgiveness disrupts our union with God and with one another.” Ouch, this is the focus of my next book so this chapter hit home. “When we look for outside resources to fill the void that only God can fill, our expectations, hopes, and aspirations will go unmet.” Oh my gosh, this is so true. I spent ten years after my sister’s kidnapping trying to fill the void only Jesus could fill. Thank goodness, I realized this. Paulette’s take on Isaiah 55:1 AMP “God’s intentions are for words to bring hope, healing, deliverance, and wholeness to everyone!” She also has a powerful explanation and breakdown of Psalm 23. Wow! Powerful illustrations of God’s Word, the Bible applies to today in ways that will touch your heart with baby steps of ways to move forward. Regardless of the struggles life brings you, Paulette says we need to say “Still I rise!” and this is modeled through a beautiful poem. We need to love ourselves the way we are. God made us this way! Paulette defines “purpose” with the disclaimer, “regardless of our definition, “purpose” plays a vital role” in our life. Do we choose God’s purpose or our own? 1 Peter 5:10 AMP We can endure. Too much meat to support this verse, read chapter twelve a few times. She ends the book with the focus right where it needs to be…on God! Lord you are… This is a book I will reread and keep on my “resource” shelf. I was blessed with a PDF version to do this review but this is one I could mark up with a highlighter and sticky notes so a print copy is being ordered. A GREAT READ! HIGHLY SUGGEST! |
