Keeping it Real...Welcome! No matter how you found this, God knew you'd be here today. May you absorb the message He has for you. In 2011 I shared through my writing, today I've learned there is more to me than just writing. I have the energy and passion to share with others. Sometimes through Facebook live and others with my blog and most importantly, I've learned my passion to cook and bake is a vessel to share my writing and live presentations, while glorifying God in the process. I just needed to let go, and follow His lead.

YOU Encourage Me...Thank you!
"I received a package with not one but 2 autographed books
from Lisa Buske today. Thank you! I will treasure them for always!"
~Tricia, Winner of a FREE book in last month's "Photo Contest" ~
Last month we celebrated my sister Heidi's birthday for the entire month. I offered to give away books through a few different contests: write a review on Amazon for a chance to win one of my books, post a picture with one of my books in it on Facebook and tag me in it for a chance to win, or take advantage of downloading Where's Heidi? One Sister's Journey and When the Waves Subside: There is Hope to your Kindle.
Well one of the winners, Tricia, won the photo challenge because she inspired the contest with the photo below of her precious and beautiful Sasha I saw on Facebook earlier this year. No one posted a picture and tagged me in during the month of September so I gifted a book to my inspiration for this contest. Tricia has been an ongoing encourager for me since I announced my book would be released and more so since its release this spring.
I was tickled to bless her with a book and then teary when I asked which book she wanted and she said, "Hi Lisa! I already have a copy of where's Heidi but I want another one autographed :) I can't wait to keep it forever and share the book with my little boy when he grows up!!!" I was a mush. Little did Tricia know I had a little something for her and that little boy so instead of sending her one autographed book, I sent her two. One of mine and one by author, Elaine W. Miller. Elaine's Splashes of Serenity for Drained Moms, is a collection of devotionals to inspire, encourage, and uplift moms. I was excited and hoped Tricia would let me know when the books arrived.

I never expected to see the photograph above posted on Facebook with Elaine and myself tagged in it. I cried again, I'm like super mush lately. Thank you Tricia!
I am humbled, touched, overwhelmed, & simply put...blessed because of your joy and excitement. Thank you for encouraging me over the past months and especially for today. You don't even know what a blessing this was today and someday I hope to share why.
I pray you and your family, this includes Sasha, have a blessed and fabulous weekend and that you find time to enjoy a Splash of Serenity when your sweet boy sleeps.
My hope was to bless you yet you blessed me ~ so it was a double blessing, don't you think?

What does it mean to click "like"?
This is a question I’ve debated since the start of Facebook. To be honest with you, I “liked” more posts at the beginning of my social media life than I do now. Before I get much farther though I better explain what a “like” is for the non-Facebook/social media people reading this blog. And yes, there are many out there who avoid social media at all costs and don’t understand the lingo – this is okay. There are days I wonder if joining them wouldn’t be a bad idea as I run in half a dozen (if not more) directions to keep up with sharing, posting, and interacting with my friends, family, and fans.
So to answer the question, “What is a ‘like’?” on Facebook – I want to start by explaining what a “post” is. Similar to other social medias (Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, The Vine, etc.) you can type a message as your status; this comment is called a “post”. Once you share your thoughts and click to “Tweet” “Post” or “Share”, depending on your social media venue – your post/message is now live and others can read it. So a “post” = “message to share your status”, with your “friends” (this is a whole different blog, maybe I’ll tackle this one in the near future too).

So a “post” = “message to share your status”, with your “friends” (this is a whole different blog, maybe I’ll tackle this one in the near future too).

Now that your post is “live”, where does it go? First and foremost, it appears on your “home page” and “news feed”. Simultaneously, it shows up on your friend’s “ticker” (a sidebar to show who is posting and what they are posting about), and on your friend’s “news page”. This is where the choice comes in. The reader can choose to ignore the post or to read it.
Once you read someone else’s post, you have another decision to make –
a) Read it and do nothing
b) Read it and “share” it with your friends
c) Read it and “like” it
d) Read and respond to it
e) Read it and “report” it
So what do these all mean?
Once you read someone else’s post, you have another decision to make –
a) Read it and do nothing
b) Read it and “share” it with your friends
c) Read it and “like” it
d) Read and respond to it
e) Read it and “report” it
So what do these all mean?

Read it and do nothing: is simply just this, you read their post and move on to read someone’s else’s post or log off your computer because of the time you’ve wasted reading other people’s posts (I’m guilty of this when in procrastination mode – and should log off rather than read on)
Read it and “share” it with your friends: the posts I typically share with others have either said something I found profound, a message I think we all could use hearing, a great illustration of life, a graphic or photograph to encourage or inspire my “friends”, a
link/recipe I want to be able to find later when I can read more, or to pass a message on to a friend or colleague who might be interested
Read it and “like” it: This means I not only read it but on some level, the person’s message spoke to my heart. Often times when a friend shares a prayer request, I will “like” it so they know I am praying for them. I look at one like equally one prayer lifted on behalf of the people I care about. At times when I’ve posted a prayer request and people like my posts, I am so encouraged to know not only do people care about be but they are also praying for me…how exciting and cool is that? Amazing, isn’t it. Your “like” is a prayer and hope for others.
SCRIPTURE ABOUT KNOW NOT WHAT TO PRAY
Read it and comment: the reason I leave a comment can vary depending on the post. Sometimes I read a post and my heart breaks for the person writing it so I try to leave an encouraging word because this is what I felt the Lord asked me to write. Other times I respond because I understand where they are coming from and want him/her to know they aren’t alone. I might just leave a smiley to so they know I’m thinking of them. A sidebar to the comment is when I don’t “like” it or “comment” publically but send a private message with a special note to encourage, support, inspire, or extend an understanding word to the person without the whole world reading it. Not everything belongs live and online for all to read – actually probably 90% of the information shared via social media used to be shared over coffee with a close friend – not the world. Just a thought to ponder…
Read it and report it: Yes I have “blocked” people and/or posts that appeared on my news feed. There are things I don’t want to see and don’t think my daughter or others should be exposed to. I don’t necessarily “report” them to the social media gods but I do block them and select the appropriate bubble to why I’m hiding it from my page. I’ve only blocked a couple people for harassing or inappropriate messages and posts on my page – this is done for my safety, and that of my family and friends that may be affected. This is a small number, yet the threat exists and more people need to consider who they friend and be willing to un-friend those who post messages and photographs that consistently go against their personal beliefs. It is your page after all – you can “hide” someone and their posts without hurt feelings too.
Another thing to think about…

Another thing to think about…

So in a nutshell – I like, share, and message my “friends” through social media as a way to encourage, inspire, support, and pray for them. This is a small way I can extend the grace and mercy and love God’s given to me, to those in my circle. Who is posting and sharing something that you could respond to? Do they just need to know someone else understands? Do they need a prayer lifted on their behalf? Are they just venting and need to know someone heard them and is listening? If so, take the time to connect with them.
It can start with a “like”, “share”, or “private message” yet the ultimate and most beneficial way to connect and relate on a personal level is over coffee (or whatever your favorite drink is). If this isn’t possible because of schedules and miles – then pick up the phone, write and send a card (yes, a real card, using the postal service), and add them to your prayer lists.

I like all of you and appreciate you following the blog –
may we all “like” the daily lives of our friends, family, neighbors, coworkers and those we meet each and every day
Thank you all for the words of encouragement and joining in the celebration of yesterday's announcement. More people signed up for the newsletter today, this will not flood your box with junk mail - it will only be a couple times a month unless something super exciting happens that I just can't wait to tell. Then I'll tell those receiving the newsletter while I wait for the next day's blog to post.
Do you remember this August when I posted about the Heidi Search Center located in Texas? This is the very center my aunt and uncle found through a Google search to bring an expert to New York. This expert, Rick, stepped in and shared more than his ability to assist law enforcement to lead a search and rescue...he brought compassion, understanding, and HOPE.
This December I travel to Texas to share HOPE at the Heidi Search Center's annual banquet. Each time I think of it I still tear up. God is so good, I never would of thought I'd be traveling to the very center who brought peace, rest, and direction to our family and community in the hours of our greatest need. I don't know if I'll see Rick again but I look forward to meeting everyone at the center and getting to know them in person.
I've talked with Crystal so much since this summer when we first "met", I expect much laughter and a reunion even though it will be our first official meeting. I look forward to meeting Heidi Seeman's family too and just pray not to get too emotional but I expect this isn't something I'll be able to control because I'm a mush.
I will be speaking on HOPE and this is all I can reveal but know I'll keep you posted as different tidbits become available. In addition to speaking at the banquet, I will be blessed with the opportunity to spend a day at the Heidi Search Center, meet the families on a more intimate level, and see the center in action. This is so exciting!!
Any opportunity to share how God has worked is a blessing yet to travel to Texas is almost like seeing God's fruit from Where's Heidi? One Sister's Journey in a light I never imagined.

to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think. 21 Glory to him in the church and in Christ Jesus through all generations forever and ever! Amen."

A note from the Heidi Search Center
San Antonio, Texas - in memory of Heidi Seeman
We need your help to kick off our end of the year fundraiser with our “HOPE INITIATIVE CAMPAIGN.”
This campaign will run from August 25, 2013 until December 7, 2013. We will kick the campaign off in memory of Heidi and Erica along with the countless other children and adults we have assisted in the past by, giving HOPE back to their families.
We would like to extend the same HOPE to other families that were extended to both the Seeman and Botello family over 23 years ago, by continuing their legacy.
Our goal is to raise $35,000 in memory of Heidi’s 35th birthday this year. This is where you can help us. We need everyone to send in any amount of money with 35 in it (for example $3.50, $35, $350, $3500, etc.) or any amount large or small to help the Heidi Search Center
continue our mission.
The HSC assists families, communities, and law enforcement agencies in the recovery of missing children and adults at-risk by advocating community awareness, facilitating search and location efforts and offering assistance and referrals to those with missing loved ones nationwide. We also provide community educational programs to effectively protect and safeguard children from abduction or exploitation.
Here’s how you can help. Go to our web-page www.heidisearchcenter.com and click on our PayPal account, mail in a check or money order, or come into our center and bring cash. It is that SIMPLE! You can also go to our Facebook page and like us. We will place weekly updates of all monies raised and let you know how close we are to our goal of $35,000. We encourage EVERYONE to share our Facebook page with family and friends all over the world, and reproduce the letter and send it out to help us get the word out.
Your support will help give HOPE back to those family members that still have a loved one missing and the new cases that enter our doors every day. Our goal is to continue providing our services FREE OF CHARGE and to give HOPE during and after what many times seems like a hopeless situation. Again, we appreciate all your help in reaching our goal of $35,000 by December 7, 2013, in time for our Tree of Hope Ceremony.
We want to show those that we serve that their loved ones are not forgotten and give them a glimpse of HOPE expressing how much we really care.

In April 94' Rick left Texas to join us in New York - bringing expertise and HOPE to a weary community and team! | I'll join the Heidi Search Center located in TEXAS this December to share H.O.P.E. with families of the missing! |
How has God showed His love to you this week? Will you share?
Today is my monthly post with the Indelibles, to visit their amazing website, click on either photograph. Indelibles is a resource for writers and self published authors. Some of us are self published by choice, in spite of contract offers. Some decide to self publish because they have a story to share with their family or maybe because they don't want to, or can't find a publisher for their book. Regardless of the reason, Indie (self published) authors look to each other and other avenues for support, feedback, and knowledge. To participate in this tour each month is one way we stay connected and help each other.
This month I want to encourage anyone, especially the Indie author to set goals and never underestimate the power of your story, and more importantly God. I released my first book, When the Waves Subside: There is Hope in February as a gift to my parents. In April, I released Where's Heidi? One Sister's Journey, written to share "one sister's journey" after the kidnapping of my only sister. This summer I released Encourage Others: One Day at a Time, to help myself, and others, keep important dates organized. With each new release, blog and speaking engagement -- I learn something and continue to challenge myself to be the best writer I can be.

I shared my testimony and story for the first time in December 2010 and I NEVER imagined I would be traveling to Texas to speak three years later!!
God is so good!!
The Heidi Search Center in San Antonio, Texas invited me to speak at their annual banquet in December! As if this isn't exciting enough, this is also the same center that sent a search expert to aid in my sister's search and rescue back in 1994. The new director didn't know this when she first contacted me, only through conversation did she learn this. God lead her to my website and blog. Never did I dream this summer when we talked that she would call me in October to let me know I was approved by the board to come and speak.
So very exciting!! The details are still in the works yet the confirmation is there. As more becomes available I will let you know. Until then, don't give up on your dreams and don't underestimate the power of God when you are obedient to follow Him.

Who would of thought small town girl would write a book or travel across the country as a professional speaker? Not me...thoughts?
Yesterday was a long day! Do you ever have days where it might be the same total of hours as the day before yet it feels much longer? That was my day yesterday. We left the house at 7 a.m. and didn't return home until after 8 p.m. So maybe it was as long as it felt? Regardless, Mags and I enjoyed each others company and the time we were blessed with in spite of the location of this quality time. Maybe I'll share more later but for now, it's a family thing.
BUT after a long day of school, drive time, appointments, a couple errands, and then an amazing band/chorus concert at the high school...a message on Facebook lifted the exhaustion and replaced it with joy.
JOY
THANKFULNESS
APPRECIATION
HUMILITY
OVERWHELEMED
EXCITED!!!
Once the concert was over and we visited with some friends and others in the community, it was time to head home last night. I couldn't wait until I got home to call the person that left the message so I called from my cell phone. Her joy and excitement on the other end of the receiver only heightened my curiosity as the goose bumps appeared on my arms.
"Hi Crystal, it's Lisa. What's up?"
I could almost see her dancing around the house (oh wait, that was me dancing) as she told me, "Lisa, I wanted to let you know...."
I'll share more in tomorrow's blog but if you want to know what it is today then sign up to receive my newsletter. I didn't plan on doing one until later in the month but this amazing God orchestrated news is cause to kick off the first one. I'll be sending it out this afternoon, probably between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. so sign up today.
No worries, I won't (and don't have time) to do daily newsletters. Some days are a joyful challenge to get the blog posted because family is first, not my computer. Have a great day!

While most of you follow the blog daily, many have a couple days each week they use to check in, and yet others get here now and then. TOP's Tuesday has become a day for me to "Make an Announcement" in regards to publishing or upcoming speaking engagements. I enjoy writing the blog, hearing from all of you, and sharing how God is working in my life. I think we all have a blog within us yet not everyone is called to write it down ~ does this make sense? Let me explain.
I think of blogging as an online journal for the world to read. If you journal, write in a diary, or leave a written legacy of your life for future generations ~ then you might just be your family's blogger - it won't be the world who reads it but instead your closest family and friends after you pass away. Regardless if you blog "live" or savor it within the covers of your journal, keep writing.
As times change and One Sister's Journey evolves, it's time to build my ability to reach more people to share hope, healing, and God with others. I write daily and still plan to blog often, if not daily. I have a few writing projects in the works and my "free" (LOL) time is scarce between working full time, being a decent wife and mother, and a couple other things going on. Something has to give so that my health isn't the first to go. I need to be strong now, more than ever.
Don't worry though, I LOVE to blog and hearing from all of you so I'll probably just take a couple days off each week and the other blogs will be shorter, or maybe I'll take what used to be one blog and make it a two part blog. This way I could still blog daily and have time to finish a project with a target DECEMBER 2013 GOAL!!
While the blogging is being modified, I am adding something new ~ a mailing list!! You'll notice on the right there is a new feature - "JOIN MAILING LIST HERE". Enter your name, email, and the format you would like to receive your emails from me. This will not be a daily email ~ I'm thinking weekly, if not twice a month. These will contain information about upcoming speaking engagements, book releases, or other exciting information.
My lovely friends Debbie and Mary encourage and inspire me to keep stepping out in faith and look ahead. The newsletter is one step forward in obedience as I wait to see all God has for me and my family. I'm still just me yet trying to figure out ways to maximize my time, to write, share, and stay connected to each of you in different modalities.
I hope you'll join my mailing list and invite your friends and family to do so too! Later this month there will be an announcement or two that will be shared via the newsletter first! If you want to know before Social Media or the blog, then JOIN the MAILING LIST. I hope you like this new addition. Have a great week.
